Platelet Component Bacterial Risk Control: An Evolution in Progress
Part 1 of 3 – AABB Science and Innovation Forum: Mitigating Bacterial Risk in Platelets: Blood Center and Transfusion Services Perspectives from University of Utah & Stanford
As the October 2021 deadline approaches to implement the FDA’s bacterial risk mitigation guidance, blood centers and hospitals have been evaluating how to ensure a safe and available platelet supply.
In this webinar, University of Utah Health presents its approach to mitigating bacterial risk in platelets with pathogen reduction and testing. A simulation model that compares the bacterial safety of different FDA Guidance testing strategies is also discussed.
